Souvenirs from Greece

Who doesn't bring back from holidays any souvenir? It' s not difficult for me, since the purchase has never been a great effort indeed!
And even if you don't spend your holidays in a paradise for shopping, you can enjoy the local delicatessen. And this is what happened this summer... not being able to bring home a couple of grilled fish, in Greece we stocked up on sun-dried tomatoes, capers, ouzo and raki.

Once at home, after placing the kitsch magnet on the fridge as usual (a donkey) and having poured the spirits into new and nice bottles, I made the labels:

They are simple and quick, you just need some stamps... but they are very nice, aren't they?

Since I never come back without a little piece of the land I visit, stones, shells or sand, this year I decided to put my memories in a glass jar with label...it  will be pretty in a few years to recall the journeys jar after jar!

Today I want to share with you one of my recent discoveries through the web. And I am not talking about dancing, despite the title...
I'm looking for an inspiration to redo the top of my sewing stool, and I am magnetically attracted by floral scene, the color purple, lilac, aquamarine... Maybe after I will change my idea, but this is the mood of the moment!
I came across Chacha by Iris, a charming Parisian brand

Fantasie delicatissime
Insetti, uccelli e farfalle
Petali e boccioli
Primavera ed estate

Delicate patterns
Insects, birds and butterflies
Petals and buds
Spring and summer

I like the way they use to contrast dreamlike atmospheres and vivid colours, almost fluorescent... Patterns are modern and timeless at the same time. Shortly, this is the palette that I would like to use for my project:

They were shorts (now fabric pom pom)

They were slightly elasticized cotton shorts, so old that I don't even remember where they came from... Perfect and comfortable to wear at home, I used them for so long that I am attached to them. Unfortunately they are now ins ugh a bad condition to be dismissed.
Instead of throwing them away (as my mum for sure would have suggested) I've turned them into a pom pom, so I still have them with me.

Ecco i passaggi e l'occorrente:
Here are the steps and what you need:

1.
Cut the cotton (even a t-shirt is fine, as long as elastic) stripes more or less the same width (1cm), trying to leave as long as possible

2.
Prepare 2 identical circles of cardboard with a central hole

3.
Place a string between the two cardboard, leaving out the ends (So far I had done pom poms without this trick and I assure you that the final step is much easier!)

4.

Begin to wrap the strips around the "sandwich" of cardboard. Use as many strips you have, I recommend at least 2-3 layers.
Remember to leave out the ends of the central string.

5.

Cut along the outer edge of the circle, always paying attention to the two ends. While you keep cutting the pom pom will open, so hold and press the center with your free hand. I think that this step with wide strips of cotton is much easier than with the classic thread of wool. The fabric is a little crushed by the pressure of the hands and does not explode.

As soon as you have finished the cutting, tighten the inside string at the center of the pom pom and tie.
Tip: use good scissors!

6.
The pompom is done! But it will be very irregular, so take the scissors and start to shorten and balance. The closer you get to the center, the more firm is the pom pom.

Voilà: pom pom cicciotto di cotone!
Chubby cotton pom pom done!

Restart

The summary of my fourth and fifth week of holiday is still missing, but those deserve a separate post, and the pictures are not ready yet (you can get a preview on my Instagram profile...)
Meanwhile it's already mid September... and I get goose bumps if I think of what awaits me from today and in the coming months. There are so many things in the pipeline, big and small, and I hope to give vent to my happiness soon.
In the meantime I found a great list of important things to keep in mind: some of them are funny, others brilliant. It made me smile... there are so obvious points that would be obvious... but truly they are not!

Considering my present situation, I'll keep in my mind these points:

Gone with the wind [part 1]

Scarlett: But really Rhett, I can't go on accepting these gifts although you are awfully kind.
Rhett: I'm not kind. I'm just tempting you. I never give anything without expecting something in return. Now, I always get paid.
Scarlett: If you think I'll marry you just to pay for the bonnet, I won't.
Rhett: Don't flatter yourself. I'm not a marrying man.
Scarlett: Well, I won't kiss you for it, either.
Rhett: Open your eyes and look at me. No, I don't think I will kiss you — although you need kissing badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.

I would say that there's nothing to add...
I have dedicated a cuscion... first successful experiment of painting on fabric!

Before

After

Steps:

Steps:
1. print the high definition image at the size you want
2. outline the design with a thick pen on a tracing paper to make it visible through the fabric, I've traced just the silhouettes
3. traced out the shapes on the fabric and then paint, the colours must be suitable for fabrics
4. let it dry (it takes short time) and then iron to secure everything.

SUMMary (week 2 and 3)

Holiday... more or less...
Going back to Italy is lovely, it has been more than 4 months since I've been there last time, definitely too much... But even if it is a huge pleasure you cannot say that it is a relaxing trip. It's a big effort to try to see and to spend time with everybody... with the result that the programs sometimes change, others are improvised (the best ones!) and you clock up the miles.
I thought that ten days would be enough to do everything... I would have spent at least a week more by the sea, another one in the mountains and one more at home.

By the sea

Here are some pictures taken by the sea of my heart (you can find more here: 1-2-3-4 ) and the mountains of the heart of A... Actually, even I am not a big fan of the mountain, I must admit that I am growing fond of that small village(maybe because we spend most of the time eating amazing food?)

In the mountains

In addition to a lot of delicious Italian things to eat, I brought back to London the memories of what a real summer is, the tastes, the smells, the colours, the freedom of walking barefoot and wearing just a light cloth, against those who, perhaps rightly, spent their summer complaining about the heating!
I must admit that on our return we have been lucky... With a wedding (my first British wedding, I was so happy, considering I know by heart 4 Weddings and a Funeral!) on Richmond Hill at the sunset and a "British affair" picnic at Battersea Park I spent the central week of August in a sunny and wonderful London!
I was forgetting one thing: all this sun has gone to my head... bye bye Cornwall, see you next time!

SUMMary (week 1)

It's time to start again, like at school, in September!
I rested, I enjoyed, I ended up outstanding and semi abandoned projects , I learned new things... I'm now READY!  To be honest I've missed the blog a little. Actually it is a part of me, a kind of diary (funny how things change along the way, at the beginning it took some efforts to tell about me)
I thought to restart with a summary of the previous weeks, from the first and that has been:

quite fresh (I would say chilly...) but with a little bit of rare sun that made you want an ice cream... with the proper summer in my head I've tried to make home made ice lollies (Nutella and Pina Colada)

Fot the Nutella ones you can find the recipe the recipes HERE (thank you!):

1/2 cup of Nutella
1 and 1/2 cup of milk

working, but calm, and of sales (I love the final English sales!)

e soprattutto OLIMPICA!

and especially OLYMPIC!
I am the negation of the sport, what about this event? I'm so lucky to be in London in 2012!
There weren't the announced problems, maybe because many Londoners went away after the alarm of queues and congestion, with the result that half London was crowded, the Olympic's one, and the other half was empty.
The Olympic atmosphere is contagious, the volunteers are fantastic and free smiles are everywhere, so I surprised myself cheering for the final of lifting weights and walking, walking, walking, to avoid the public transport and because I didn't want to be the only non sportive person in the city.
Lifting weights is not one of my secret passions, A. has chosen between the available last minute tickets... but I have to admit that I get completely hooked on these little men so muscle that they seem not to have the neck !

In ritardassimo... Buon settembre e buon inizio a tutti!
I know I'm late... Happy September and a good start at all!
