Sunday {shabby} shopping

I quote the conversation of last Sunday morning:
"Do we go by car to the car boot sale?"
"It's better by scooter... it's sunny... and it's late, maybe we won't find anything interesting!"

Famous last words...
Elizabeth' s boot is not so large but we have to consider that we were almost taking home a 2m statue of liberty...

Our last Sunday morning at the flea market has been amazing, probably thanks to the bright sun and to a chat with the sellers.

Ecco il bottino / Here is the loot:

Mensolina ad angolo per la cucina

Pomelli... per qualche prossimo restauro

Adesso posso iniziare con le erbe aromatiche

Per il coperchio della prossima alzatina

Roses chalkboard

E siamo solo all'inizio della bella stagione!

As if on purpose I've looked for all these items together... everything white, with antique flavor, slightly shabby...
The day before I've gone to Antropologie looking for inspiration... I like everything, but what prices!
Again, no disappointment... And it is only the beginning of the good season!

The doors

And after the bricks... What is more typical of London than the coloured doors?
I really do not understand how this city can be defined as grey... this is one of those myths like "it always rains here"... But I promise to write soon a post about these beliefs...

Today I just show a personal (and little) collection of the entrance doors of the houses in London.

{Instagram}

Colore colore colore colore

Colour colour colour colour
as a contrast to the brick facades or to the total white...
often as the handrail of the stairs to the basement...
 or as the garden fence...
or even better as the floral composition...

That is, the creative recycling of a brick.
The London bricks are very famous, they have a particular colour... and they are very popular.
The Victorian houses and most of the not recent buildings are all made by bricks, natural or painted.

Some interior walls are often brick built, in the pubs or even in the private houses. The wall where there is the fireplace in our house is in white bricks...
Anyway...  in the garden we have a certain amount of bricks, left there for some reason.
The rooms in my house change according to the folding doors which close or open the folding doors ... so I really need some doorstop.

But as usual I have not found anything that I liked (and not too expensive!)... then:

1+1=2
cioè... mattone fermaporta!
easy peasy... brick doorstop!

Alcuni consigli / Some tips:

Clean the brick very well using a brush, and if you wash it then let it dry for a long time (several days). It can't be wet inside.

If it is damaged, it's better fix it before starting to paint (fill cracks with silicone)

Don't paint directly the brick but remember to use a strong primer because it is porous and can absorb the varnish.

I've done four bricks, two white and two gold... they look like ingots!

What to find in a car boot sale?

And after the atmosphere and the people... today some pictures of what you can find in a car boot sale...

Buona caccia all'affare!
Happy bargain hunting!

Have a lovely weekend!

What's a car boot sale?

I've written a lot about them... and sometimes I show you my purchases... but I've not yet shared any image of an English flea market.
Please do not imagine anything exceptional! Generally they take place over the weekend, every week or once a month, in a car parks or in a school grounds.
The sellers arrive
early in the morning (very early)... and then the buyers, who pay a symbolic fee of maximum £ 1 maximum...

You can find pretty much everything on sale... even things that I want to say "How can you even remotely thinking about selling it? Let's throw it!"
In fact the name "car boot sale" is quite clear... Fill your car boot with all the trunk you have and you don't use... and try to sell somethingth!
I have to admit that you can always find something interesting and really cheap...

Apart from the purchase, and what I like is the atmosphere, the incredible mix of people, the bargaining for just some halfpenny, the black hot coffee in the winter afternoon sun...

Amore a prima vista / Love at first sight

First warning: this is not a fashion blog... but sometimes you have just got to...

Second warning: this is not a post like "I want it"... my birthday is on its way and they are lovely, but it's not a sneaky way to advise what to give me. I've enough glasses... and I'm shortsighted so I always use the graduated ones...

Well, after this preamble... I'll show what impressed my heart:

Phillips Pastel

Cass Pastel

Then I found that this is the same brand of Lady Gaga's sunglasses, that personally I don't like so much...
But I totally agree with the motto:

"by definition accessories are supplemental; there is no need to be practical. so go big. go hard, and go far.
with love, 'till death
a-morir. "

Stairs to...

Maybe because I spent my childhood using a staircase designed by an architect... and I wonder what miracle has prevent us (for now) to fall down...

Maybe because where I work now I go upstairs and downstairs 30 times a day, that for me is the most constant relationship with sport I've ever had in my life...

Sarà che sono pur sempre un architetto...
Maybe because I'm supposed to be still an architect...

Maybe because I have always expected at the rules, and the Italian legislation is quite strict as usual... that means never without handrails, proportion between the riser and the step...

Sarà che ho problemi a farle in discesa...
Maybe because of my problem going down...

... per questi motivi forse queste scale mi piacciono tanto.
... maybe for all these reasons I love these staircases.

Le ho raggruppate secondo i canoni dell'Atelier Buffo:
I've put them together following the rules of the Atelier Buffo:

1. Something NEW

***** Do Ho Suh staircase at the TATE MODERN

2. Something OLD

***** I really love this ambient

3. Something COLOURFUL

4. Something USEFUL

Stair storage... So clever... why didn't I think???

Blossoms in London... Welcome Spring

In these days I have noticed that something is changing quickly... And I'm not talking about something abstract in the air...

The green in London is waking up!
Not only in the parks... what surprise me are the flower beds, the hedges, the small private gardens, the trees that I see every day.

Since they started, I'm following their awakening... every morning, despite the rush, I cannot not to notice the sudden changes, things that happen in just one night.
It's true that walking, even with your head away, you notice more details than when you're in the car, maybe queuing.
I miss my car, I have to be honest... but actually I'm realizing the season's changes... and so, after the summer, autumn and winter, now I'm walking around the same streets in the spring... OMG, the first year is about to close (HELP ME!!)

Anyway... in any season you cannot not to be fascinated by flower beds and hanging baskets in front of the Victorian houses, they are always a delight!

And so today I decided to show you some images collected over the last few days... nothing sophisticated, just what I see every day...

Buon giretto nei miei dintorni quotidiani
Let's have a ride in my daily neighborhood

in rosa

in viola

in rosso

in bianco

in giallo

That I recently am crazy for the pottery it is not a news...
I'm also studying a bit... I'm learning notions that I need to recognize valuable things of quality from the other junk.
Among the various findings, a typically British famous brand.

It's WEDGWOOD... and you have probably already seen their most typical and recognizable plates, vases and cups in a creamy blue decorated with white silhouette.

Qui un pò di storia del marchio
Here a bit of history of the brand

Nowadays there have also more colorful and less classic patterns...
I have been already captured by some of them  when I saw them in some department stores...
And now I know something more... and I show you my favorites:

Butterfly Bloom

Queen of Hearts

My blue selection from Liberty (Royal Albert)

My pink selection from Liberty (Royal Albert)

Cuckoo

Inutile dire che vorrei... TUTTO!!!
{Ma non sono proprio low cost... }

Needless to say I would like to have... EVERYTHING!
{But they are not really cheap... }
