Eravamo rimasti che ci mancavano i mobili. 

Poi un sabato mattina ci prepariamo per la nostra routine car boot sale di Wimbledon e mercato di Fulham... E torniamo a casa con una credenza e una cassettiera.

Ci sono le giornate fortunate (SF)!

Abbiamo appena pagato il nostro poundino di ingresso al car boot sale e la troviamo.

La cassettiera che ci voleva in camera e' li, ha un prezzo onestissimo ed è anche in ottime condizioni. Ci dicono che venga dall'Eton College... Vero o no, le misure sono perfette, piace sia a me che A., strano... Quindi aggiudicata!

 Il "restauro" e' stato facile, senza lode né infamia... Pulizia profonda e una cera nutritiva che ha ravvivato il colore del legno. La teniamo così, sarebbe un peccato dipingerla.
Ho rivestito il fondo dei cassetti con una stoffa di cotone di Liberty applicata con il velcro.

3 ampi cassetti e la ribaltina.

E' la mia cassettiera, potete immaginare la gioia di avere calze e biancheria nei cassetti invece che pescare nei sacchetti alla cieca ogni mattina? E le mie cosette finalmente a portata di mano! Era ora...

La credenza e' un'altra storia, che merita un capitolo a parte.

Per dovere di cronaca, quella mattina dal car boot sale abbiamo portato a casa anche una slot machine, seconda altra storia…

Dressed up garden table

Che la mia mamy si sbizzarrisca con ago, filo e pizzi e' cosa nota (vedere qui, qui, qui, qui e qui)... quello che a me risulta un po' strano e' il fatto che, dopo anni di total white, sia passata al colore, e che colore!

Quando ero ancora in casa, guai ad accennare cambiamenti non neutri, ricordo di essere stata autorizzata a colorare di rosso una parete della mia camera dopo la laurea.

E ora mi stupisce con arancione, rosso, fucsia... benvenuto colore!

My mum enjoys sewing, that's not a news (have a look here, here, here, here and here)... what surprises me and sounds a little strange to me is that, after years of total white, she has started using colour, a lot of!

Since I was still at home, please don't mention any changes far from the neutral colours, I remember I have been allowed to paint a red wall of my room after my graduation.

And now she wonders me with orange, red, pink... welcome color!

Questo tavolo ci accompagna da sempre, e' di sicuro piu' vecchio di me e forse anche della mia mamma. Lo ricordo ancora bianco in campagna, poi color ferro in citta'... e ora fucsia per l'estate 2012.

This table has been with us forever, it is definitely older than me and maybe than my mum. I still remember it in white in the country, then grey in the town's garden... and now it is pink for the summer 2012.

Full wardrobe

Se non vivete in una reggia/cascina/super attico

e se non avete un guardaroba ridotto al minimo indispensabile, 

probabilmente come me avete problemi di spazio.

L'unica soluzione era uno stand appendiabiti.

Quando ho deciso di acquistarne uno, lo volevo carino e possibilmente elegante, insomma da lasciare in vista senza che risultasse troppo "precario".

Di metallo, magari dorato, simile a quelli degli hotel americani: ma nemmeno sui siti specializzati ho trovato nulla (a prezzi decenti).

Qui (UK) la scelta non è così limitata come in Italia. Si può trovare qualcosa di carino anche da Argos a poco, anche rosa!

Alla fine ho optato per l'Ikea: ho acquistato Rigga, ma così come era proprio non andava bene..

If you don't live in a palace/farm/penthouse

and if you do not have a minimum wardrobe

you would probably have some space problems, like me.

My only solution was a clothes stand.

When I have decided to buy one, I looked for a nice one, if possible elegant... I mean one to be left in my bedroom without seems too cheap.

I would like to have a chrome one, maybe gold, as those you can see in the US style hotels: but I didn't find any affordable one neither in specialized on line shops.

Here in UK you have a better choice than in Italy. You can find for example a nice (and pink!) clothes stand from Argos.

After some other considerations, I've chosen Rigga from Ikea, but it was just the starting point...

4. tutto l'appendiabiti è stato rivestito... / the clothes stand has been entirely upholstered...

Sembra un pacchetto regalo... e invece...

Non è così semplice trovare un armadio alto e profondo, ma non eccessivamente lungo.
Avevo a disposizione una parete dal soffitto alto, ma stretta... così ho dovuto riutilizzare l'armadio a due ante che c'era già.
Ovviamente non mi piaceva... bianco ed anonimo, ma dalle misure perfette!

Quindi... colori e righe per riadattarlo ai miei gusti!

It's not easy to find an high and wide wardrobe not too long.

My wall was high-ceilinged, but a bit narrow... so I had to reuse the two doors wardrobe already there.

Obviously I didn't like it... it was too white and anonymous, but the sizes were perfect!

So... I re-designed it by colours and stripes!

E' un bel tavolo massiccio, di quelli allungati che si possono mettere in un ingresso, o sono utilissimi ad una festa-cena, appoggiati alla parete e carichi di prelibatezze e beveraggi...

Però era un pò anonimo... Cate ha pensato di ravvivarlo in maniera strong... con l'argento!

It's a nice and solid table, a console table that you can put in an entrance, or is useful to a party-dinner, leaning against the wall and covered by delicious food and beverages as well...

But it was a little anonymous... Cate thought to makeover it in a strong way... with silver!

Quindi anche io mi sono permessa di ravvivare la immagini con un colore fluo... provate a immaginarlo allestito in un ambientazione forte, magari carico di piramidi di macarons... come qui:

So I allowed myself to revive the images with a fluorescent colour... let's try to imagine this console table in a cool setting, maybe loaded with pyramids of macarons:

Welcome back also at Cate's Monday!

Oggi uno sgabello... ravvivato da un celeste turchese brillante per le gambe e da una stoffa di rivestimento con le scimmiette!

Today, a footstool... remade by a bright turquoise blue for the legs and a funny upholstery with monkeys for the bench!

In inglese sedute del genere si chiamano Ottoman, per associazione con l'uso orientale, specialmente turco di questo pezzo d'arredamento.
La stoffa quindi non poteva che essere più adatta... e ironica al tempo stesso!

The English name of this kind of furniture is Ottoman, in association with the Oriental way of use, expecially in Turkish style.

The fabric chosen for it couldn't be more appropriate... and funny at the same time!

Ultimo "lunedì di Cate" prima di Natale... quindi oggi vi mostro l'ultimo suo lavoro in ordine temporale, il più recente...
la vetrinetta di We Love, dove Cate espone la sua attività come grafica nel mondo delle partecipazioni di matrimonio.

Last "Cate's Monday" before Christmas... so I'll show you her last work...

have a look at the We Love cabinet, ie the place where Cate shows her activity as graphics designer in the world of the wedding cards.

La base è la parte superiore di una vecchia credenza... Con una rotazione di 90° e una buona dose di immaginazione è stata riadattata: ora è appunto un originalissimo mobile verticale a ripiani in puro stile We Love!

The starting point is the top of an old cupboard... It has been rotated of 90° and with a good dose of imagination has been renewed. Now it is an original standing cabinet with shelves perfectly aligned to We Love's style!

A me piace tutto di questa casa, ma ad essere onestissima, in questo post ci sono le due creazioni che preferisco.

I like everything in this house, but to be honest, in this post you can find my favourite creations.

La base era ottima, ma che lavoraccio la sverniciatura per riportare il legno alla sua bellezza naturale! E dal momento che le venature sono meravigliose così, si è deciso di lasciarle "respirare".
Solo il piano è stato poi successivamente riverniciato di un bianco brillante.

The base was great, but what hard work to bring the wood back to its natural beauty! And since the grains are so wonderful, it was decided to let them "breathe".
Only the top was later repainted in a bright white.

Al secondo posto si classifica la credenza con vetrina... 

che dipinta di rosso acceso è decisamente Sixties!

 In the second place we find the sideboard with the cabinet...

That painted in plain red is absolutely Sixties!

Le sveglie antiche e i pomelli a fiore (Zara Home) ingentiliscono il tutto.

The antique clocks and the floral knobs refine the sideboard.

Ovviamente il resto della stanza è piuttosto neutro...vi assicuro che l'effetto generale è bellissimo, di gusto e per niente standardizzato!

Obviously the other furniture of the room is pretty neutral... I assure you that the overall effect is beautiful, tasteful and not at all standardized!

Cate's Monday [wardrobe]

Forse il titolo di questo post è un pò riduttivo...
perchè il lavoro per trasformare il vecchio armadio in quello che vedete qui sotto è stato lungo e faticoso, ma di sicuro ne è valsa la pena!
Purtroppo, per me ma anche per Cate, il problema è la pazienza... elemento indispensabile in questi lavori... ma è così bello inziare qualcosa di nuovo, che poi abbiamo subito voglia di vederlo finito!
E i tempi delle vernici, del legno, delle colle sono leeeeenti...

Maybe the title of this post is a bit reductive...

Because the work for trasforming the old closet in what you can see above took a long time and it was tiring, but for sure it was worth it!

Unfortunately, for Cate and me, the problem is to have patience... and the patience is an essential element in these kind of works... but it is so exciting to start something new that we can't wait to see it finished!

And times of paints, of wood and glue are so slow...

Comunque... questo era un vecchio armadio a quattro ante, che come tutti i mobili datati ha delle dimensioni importanti, è super capiente e ha nobili finiture difficili da trovare ora (se non spendendo un capitale!)

So... this was an old four doors wardrobe and as many furniture from the past has large dimensions, it is very capacious and noble-finished, things that are quite difficult to find nowadays (if you don't want to spend a fortune!)

Per il bancone della cucina avevamo bisogno almeno di uno sgabello...
Non mangiamo mai lì, ma si chiacchiera intanto che si cucina, e soprattutto... è l'angolo dell' aperitivo casalingo!
Non lo volevo moderno, quindi sono andata alla ricerca dello sgabello di legno, quello classico da pub... e finalmente la scorsa settimana l'ho trovato in un charity shop:

Oggi qualcosa di semplicissimo... 

 Today something easy peasy... 

Basta avere una poltroncina di legno intrecciata e una bomboletta spray di vernice... la mia era bianca, ma davvero malmessa... necessitava di una ravvivata al colore!

All you need is a basket armchair and a spray varnish... Mine was white but really battered... it needed a new colour!
