Christmas time... let's start!

Va bene... è ora di iniziare a pubblicare qualcosa in tema natalizio...
Visto che qui (a Londra) ci sono in giro addobbi dalla fine di agosto ho un pò perso la cognizione del tempo e ho finora avuto la sensazione di essere troppo in anticipo! Ma ora inizia il conto alla rovescia... quindi incomincio!
In realtà ho pensato di iniziare in modo soft...

Okay... let's start to post something related to Christmas...
Due to the fact that here (in London) you can find decorations since August I have lost a bit the sense of the time and I had the feeling of being far too early! But now the count down has started... then I begin!
Actually I thought about starting with something soft...

 

Last weekend my mum came to visit me and together we had ​​a three-day intensive shopping! What wonders I've seen...

Giusto per farmi conoscere un pò meglio, e darvi la mia personale opinione... ecco il mio podio di "atmosfera e shopping natalizi" nei grandi magazzini di Londra:

in assoluto il numero 1, sempre e in tutte le stagioni... mi fa sentire bene, con atmosfera d'altri tempi e di coccole...ha su di me l'effetto della vetrina di Tiffany per Holly!

Absolutly the number 1 always and in all seasons... it makes me feel good, with a timeless and cuddly atmosphere... it has on me the effect of the window of Tiffany's on Holly!

Ecco il mio ultimo acquisto... la scatola dei biscotti con carillon... peccato non possiate sentire la Jingle Bell!

Here is my latest purchase... the musical biscuits box... What a pity you cannot hear the Jingle Bell!

2. LIBERTY

al 90% inaccessibile per abbigliamento e accessori... bellissimo il reparto tessile e la cartoleria... e adoro lo scricchiolio del legno di scale e pavimenti!

3. SELFRIDGES

il reparto natalizio è al piano -1... quello della casa... quante chicche!

Cate's Monday [wardrobe]

Forse il titolo di questo post è un pò riduttivo...
perchè il lavoro per trasformare il vecchio armadio in quello che vedete qui sotto è stato lungo e faticoso, ma di sicuro ne è valsa la pena!
Purtroppo, per me ma anche per Cate, il problema è la pazienza... elemento indispensabile in questi lavori... ma è così bello inziare qualcosa di nuovo, che poi abbiamo subito voglia di vederlo finito!
E i tempi delle vernici, del legno, delle colle sono leeeeenti...

Maybe the title of this post is a bit reductive...

Because the work for trasforming the old closet in what you can see above took a long time and it was tiring, but for sure it was worth it!

Unfortunately, for Cate and me, the problem is to have patience... and the patience is an essential element in these kind of works... but it is so exciting to start something new that we can't wait to see it finished!

And times of paints, of wood and glue are so slow...

Comunque... questo era un vecchio armadio a quattro ante, che come tutti i mobili datati ha delle dimensioni importanti, è super capiente e ha nobili finiture difficili da trovare ora (se non spendendo un capitale!)

So... this was an old four doors wardrobe and as many furniture from the past has large dimensions, it is very capacious and noble-finished, things that are quite difficult to find nowadays (if you don't want to spend a fortune!)

Sugar cubes

Oggi un esperimento in cucina, potete vedere la versione originale su questo blog (me l'ha suggerito Ciusi*). Ho solo fatto una piccola modifica all'originale, per avere degli zuccherini colorati...

Today an experiment in the kitchen, you can have a look at the original one on this blog... (it has been suggested to me by Ciusi*). I just modified the original tutorial in order to have coloured sugar cubes...

Good morning!

Ingredienti / Ingredients:

 Zucchero granulato bianco / Granulated white sugar

Acqua / Water

Colorante alimentare / Food colouring

Stampini per ghiaccio / Ice cube tray

Devo ammettere che il primo tentativo è fallito... non è un procedimento difficile ma bisogna usare le giuste dosi di acqua e colorante!
Se c'è troppa acqua i cristalli si sciolgono... se si esagera col colorante non asciugheranno mai!

I have to admit that my first attempt failed... it is not difficult but you have to use the right amounts of water and colouring!

If there is too much water, the crystals melt... if you overdo with the colouring they will never dry!

What NOT to do!

Procedimento / How to:

1. Versate poco alla volta qualche gocciolina di acqua nello zucchero ed amalgamate. Deve diventare di una consistenza pastosa ma conservare l'aspetto granuloso.
 Pour a few drops of water on the sugar, little by little, and mix. It has to be a pasty consistency but keep the grainy look.

2. Aggiungete 1-2 gocce di colorante alimentare in base alle vostre esigenze di colore, non di più... mescolate fino ad avere una colorazione omogenea.
Add 1-2 drops of food colouring to suit your needs, not more... stir until the colour is uniform.
 

3. Riempite gli stampini e pigiate il contenuto

CONSIGLIO: non devo essere troppo alti, altrimenti impiegheranno molto tempo ad asciugare.
Fill the molds and press the sugar
TIP: the sugar cubes must not be too high, otherwise they take a long time to dry 

4. Lasciate asciugare... almeno una notte
Let it dry... at least overnight 
 

5. Capovolgete con cura lo stampo...

 Carefully turn the mold upside down...

Eccoli... d'effetto e super econominci!!!

Non so voi, ma io avevo una certezza... LAVAGNA, in inglese, si dice BLAKBOARD...
Credo di averlo imparato alle elementari, è una nozione piuttosto datata nella mia memoria!

Beh, è corretto... ma con un altro termine si apre un mondo... CHALK!

When I studied English in Italy I was sure that "LAVAGNA" meant BLACKBOARD here...

I think I have learnt it since I was at the primary school, it is a quite old concept in my mind!

Well, it is correct... but I discovered another word that opened a new world to me... CHALK!

Qui a Londra l'effetto lavagna è ovunque... nei negozi, nei pub, sulle insegne, sugli oggetti... qualsiasi superficie può essere "gessata"!
Ed esistono un sacco di prodotti utilissimi per la trasformazione, dalle vernici alle pellicole adesive...

Here in London the chalkboard style is everywhere, shops, pubs, on signes, on objects... any surface can be chalked!

And a lot of usefull product are made for, such as paint or adhesive roll paper...

Ovviamente non ho saputo resistere... ho acquistato tutto l'occorrente per trasformare casa in una lavagnetta! Ma non vorrei farmi prendere la mano... quindi sto centellinando i miei lavori...

Obviously I couldn't resist... I bought everything I need to transform my home in a chalkboard! But I wouldn't get carried away... so I'm sipping my works...
