One year ago... [part 1: Happy Birthday Casina]

My personal bow window and Ciccio Natale always with us

Bar stool made by me

Rope initial... have a look here

A year ago, while Kate was moving to Buckingham Palace, I spent my first weekend in the new home in London.
I clearly remember... I was still based in Italy, for a few months, they were just 3 days to take possession of the little house and to move A's stuff from his previous house to this one. My things were and still are scattered around...

The entrance

The research hasn't been easy, we saw some horrible options. But when we found the right one... well, fingers crossed for at least a month because it hasn't been so easy. Even if you rent there is a process, that if I think about today it's really a joke, but to pass from UNDER OFFER to LET , well, we spent some days with a stomach ache (waiting for somebody to ask you how many pants you have in your drawer... I'm exaggerating but here references are a serious matter especially if, like me, you have no background in UK).

The first thing I learned is that a professional cleaning is far away from the minimum standard! Fortunately the house was nice and new, or rather the overall situation was fine... but on closer inspection, what a mess!
I'm not joking, as a first thing I run to Poundland and I spent a fortune on detergents and brushes (by the way, it take some efforts to spend a fortune at Poundland, where everything is £1.00!)
Just to give an example, I was cleaning the windows from outside and a neighbor told me "how a nice idea, I've never done it!"

Cabinet in progess

Anyway, time has passed since those days as a desperate housewife...
What better time to show my little home than its first birthday?

Happy Birthday Casina!!!

PS: adding the links I've discovered how much this blog tells about the house, grown piece by piece during the last year... and how much the home tells about us.

Oggi mammismo...

I'm not a mammon (she can attest herself) but this post is entirely dedicated to my mum!
She took part to an exhibition of crafts, so finally she picked up her works (unfortunately I hasn't been there...)
And I must show them...

They are bed linen, towels and tablecloths with hand sewed laces. The colours are unusual, for original and very personalized pieces born to perfectly suit the space where they are placed.

Così il rosa, il rosso e il viola vanno d'accordo...
So pink fits in with red and purple too...

Chi ama i colori neutri gioca con le sfumature candide a naturali...
Who loves neutral colours can play with natural shades...

Brava mamy!!

Lovely pottery (@Emma Bridgewater)

Conoscete Emma Bridgewater?

Do you know Emma Bridgewater? Probably you do... but if not, I'll introduce her.
Emma has established her brand in 1985, while she was looking for an original present for her mum... and now her brand is a competitive company that she runs with her husband (basically... a dream!)
The style is typically British  but with something Mediterranean... the thick pottery reminded me some Sicilian plates I had from my mum... and I've just discovered from the website that  the Italian terracotta is one of her inspirations!
Decorated by hand, the patterns are   an interpretation of classical designs, but they look modern and a little pop.

Ce n'è per tutti i gusti... animali, cuori, stelline, Union Jack...
There's something to suit everybody's fancy... animals, hearts, stars, Union Jack...

Polka Dot

Pink Hearts - Sampler - Red Star

and for any occasions, mum's or dad's day, Royal Wedding last year and Diamond Jubilee this year...

Union Jack

Misc

You can find them everywhere, in the stores (I love the one in Fulham!) or in the kitchen corner in the main department stores! And the good news is that they can be delivered all over Europe buying on-line!
Last but not not least discovery to remember: you can personalize your gift!

Spring mood

A quick look at the windows or at any fashion blog is enough... pastel colours and lace are everywhere.
I've always loved this style, so it isn't a big effort for me to adapt my look to these trends dictates...

My friends often pokes fun on me because my wardrobe is full of colours and floral patterns... both in summer and in winter I'm not properly serious...
I'm pretty addicted to shopping, but London is calming me... there's really whatever you want, but with the green light to the most unexpected combinations the possibilities multiply. Obviously it doesn't take me long to adapt, who cares? As far as I leave my imagination free I remain the most normal in a tube coach! The positive thing is that pieces that lay asleep in my closet (never throw anything!) have been dusted off... with great pleasure of my balance...

Però qualche capo nuovo ci vuole, giusto qualcosa di fresco... ecco i miei acquisti primaverili (e qualche regalo):
But some new pieces are necessary, just something fresh... here is my spring shopping, with some presents:

I'm ready, just missing the spring!

Shabby frame

Well, the picture flew immediately in the bin (recycle paper) but the frame has been left in a corner for a while...

Then I've decided to restore it...
I 've chosen the shabby style... that so far isn't a very innovative idea, but it is for me.
So far I've liked this style, but generally in others' houses. I like more the warm and bright colours.
Actually now I'm changing my mind... probably due to the total white style all around me... The English style is definetly stricter than mine, and it's probably calming down mine.

Quindi... primo esperimento di shabby completato:
So... my first shabby experiment has been completed:

Che ne dite?
What do you think?

Even the most pale frame gains personality with its content... I've chosen, for the moment, just a small floral pattern, of course red that is my favorite color. It's a simple tissue paper, a gentle fancy that gives a touch of colour (I bought it at Paperchase).

Shepherd's Bush Market

Today I'll bring you to the Shepherd's Bush Market

Far from the touristic paths... but close to my home
not British at all... but more African style
very near to Westfield, the biggest londoner shopping centre, but ages far from it

even if the daylight is not the best (and for example when I took those pictures the sky was dull) it is colorful

specialized in fabrics and haberdashery

and grocery... but please do not limit your choose to what you know

Well, a place with its strong nature, attended by those who live nearby, a real glimpse of an incredible mix of cultures.
A place to visit before it disappears...

Pasquetta Buffa

After 4 months I came back home...
After a long time up and down feeling on loan anywhereI admit that I'm fed up with flyingso if I can I avoid it.
But I'm lucky, I feel at home in two different countrieswithin the walls of my home here as the ones in Italy
The days flew past as usual, and I came back here feeling that I have neglect someone and that I have devoted too little time with loved ones.

Ecco qualche scorcio:

Easter and my birthday were both beautiful days, with family and friends...
Here are some glimpses:

GRAZIE AMICICI!!!

I'll tell you what this little holiday reminded me... it's just a positive and perhaps frivolous list about a country that makes me more and more often angrybut that it's still the country where I want to live (okay, maybe not now, but who knows in the future...)

I can even afford cigarettes
Even the smallest supermarket is the envy of the Harrods Food Hall and the Whole Foods Market
I always miss the "most delicious pizza in the world" and the ice cream
Apples and tomatoes do not taste the same
Jokes and silences in English does not have the same effect and meaning
We become older (euphemismand many things are changing (!) but we are always silly and funny in the same way... indeed, worse!
It doesn't matter if we are scattered everywhere... there are relationship which are not affected by the distancetime and space. The time is always too short but every time we are together we laugh and talk as the previous time... THANKS MY FRIENDS!

Buona Pasqua! Happy Easter!

Today last post before a short break... a little holiday, or rather, a return to home!
" Christmas with your family and Easter with whomever you want"... that in my case is the same due to the circumstances.
And since there's not only Easter but also my birthday, I'll lengthen my vacation of a few days... so the blog is also closed for holiday!
I wish you all a very pleasant time, thanks to the spring and a few days off!

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven't done anything for this event... but anyway I want to leave you something paschal...
What's more classic than the eggs?
If they are gorgeous, created by artists and scattered throughout the center of London it's even better!
Since February Fabergé has placed more than 200 decorated eggs all over the centre of the city, creating as well a free and open-air exhibition and also the largest egg hunt ever organized (THE FABERGE' BIG EGG HUNT).
This is a charity event related to the Diamond Jubilee and it is coming to its end. The sculptures will be soon given to buyers with an auction at Sotheby.
It's been funny to discover where all the eggs were hidden... from the most classic to the most unconventional place...

Ecco le mie preferite
Here are my favourite ones
