No carve Halloween

Waiting for my pumpkin and to tell you about the swap I attended... a bit of Halloween is mandatory. Pumpkins are everywhere, I have seen hundreds around the city during the last weekend!
There are some nice ideas, but in my opinion there are few truly original...
So today I want to share only what I was really impressed.... for some reason they are all white pumpkins.

Just a few ideas not too complicated for cute pumpkins, no need to go to the gym to prepare your arms for carving!

Tassels!

The tassels are a universal ornament... from moccasins to earrings-bracelets-necklaces and handbags are a fancy in clothing and accessories.
In the house they soften and make bright many objects and furniture. As a key-ring, hung on the knobs of the doors or the drawers, as garlands, the tassels add color or enhance a room.

Pinterest

Here, for example, on an old chest of drawers: I like the contrast between the style of the dresser and the bright colours of the tassels: I bought these tassels few years ago in Morocco, but recently I've also tried to make some.
It's pretty simple, you can follow the instructions HERE...
Meanwhile, I'm making more... Soon you'll see the result!

The princess and the pea

If normally this is the first cold of the season, this year I can safely admit that it makes no difference for me. Trying to find the positives of the British weather, if you use scarves and tights even in the summer, then autumn is less traumatic.
The duvet is on the bed 365 days a year, the heating turned on for a while... but even if you get used to be always prepared for the storm, some mornings I drink my coffee by the window and I feel myself already cold...
There are mornings when the gray outside pushes you back in the bed, and it takes a great effort not to go back under the quilt.

In such mornings I dream of being wrapped into layers of blankets on soft mattresses, of being snug in bed... give me feathers, as the Princess and the Pea. I'm sure that, if I felt the pea, I'd be willing to tolerate the discomfort in order not to go out and soak my bones!

Columbia Road

Not far from Brick Lane and Spitalfields here is the Columbia Road Flower Market.
You don't necessarily have to wake up at dawn... maybe it's better not to go for the afternoon tea if you want to find something, but the late morning is fine, and in my opinion, and ideal for many reasons:
prices are lower and you can negotiate
there are a lot of nice little places to spend your lunch
it's Sunday, you are allowed to sleep in the morning!

The flowers (and plants) market is along Columbia Road, a road closed to traffic where you can hardly walk on a sunny day, but it's not just this...

ortensie grandi come la mia testa / hydrangeas as big as my head
limoni / lemons
lavanda / lavender
erbe aromatiche / herbs
mazzi di rose / bouquets of roses
orchidee / orchids

On both sides of the main street, and along two lateral streets there are small galleries and shops selling clothes, home decor, vintage and of course gardening tools.
In the courtyards other stalls, again vintage, or pretty cafes. You can eat everywhere and everything: a tiny sandwich with salmon, hot dogs, a muffin...
In the middle a square where is frequent to see musicians playing.

Once you are here... you cannot miss the farm!
The Hackney City Farm is a real farm! With lots of fields, chickens, pigs, donkeys, almost an oasis in the city with workshops, courses and a coffee strictly organic.

Well... as the saying goes... how to spend a Sunday in London?

Cheers!

CHEERS!

Cotswolds... I want a cottage

Noi abbiamo visitato:

Bourton on the Water
Broadway
Chipping Campden
Snowshill
Burford

The only drawbacks of the weekend I am going to tell were the following:
- it was cold (really?)
- "is that smoke?" referred to Elizabeth who trudged uphill, but it happened just once and we were 4 passengers + luggages, I cannot blame her
- the opening hours of the English countryside, that means the open pub hunting open after midnight in a village of 2000 people (but we found it, very rustic!)
Everything else has been very pleasant,  starting from the company, which is tested in the countryside (here)

We spent a weekend in a land that is considered the English Tuscany... but actually the English countryside is beautiful everywhere.
Two days in the green, through the villages of stones with thatched roofs like centuries ago, a bit tourist but still typical, careful to preserve their peculiarities, with tea rooms, pubs and pretty shops where you can buy any British style accessories, cemeteries in the countryside where feel relaxed instead of scared.

We visited:

Bourton on the Water
Broadway
Chipping Campden
Snowshill
Burford

We hadn't booked anything... but at the first B&B we stopped, which was full, a nice lady called for half an hour all her knowledge in the area to find an accommodation for us and we were diverted to another place. The Pennylands has rooms with four-poster beds and fireplace, a view of green hills and endless kindness, as well as an amazing full english breakfast!
We forgot for a while all the ethnic cuisines we have in London for a proper british food (and beer and Pimm's...)

Okay, I want a cottage, with a huge fireplace for the autumn...

DIP-DYE addiction

You avoid some things for years, maybe you don't like them... and then they become a passion, maybe temporary, who knows? It is happening to me for the dip-dye, a technique for fabric dyeing.
Different from the tip-dye, which is made with the knots, and that is very peace and love, the dip is obtained, as the name says, by dipping.
The fabric, the best is the cotton, is dipped into the DYE colouring and the result is a gradient, from the more intense colour to the original color of the fabric, which very often is white.

From clothing to bracelets and necklaces... to furniture and complements for the house:

Looking for images I found that Designers Guild Autumn 2012 Saraille collection has fabrics and wallpapers... Pillows and tea towels are from John Lewis
The chairs are to be kept in mind for a future project.

Patchwork, china and much more

Finally we went back to the car boot sale I consider the best one in West London: just a few professional sellers, a lot of British gentlemen and very attractive prices.
Once closed for rain, once for refurbishment of the school where is based, then the summer holidays... I had the date marked on the calendar for months, and luckily this time it was open!

As the last time I was not disappointed, here's the loot:

Brass knobs, never enough and placemats

Windsor style bar stool for the kitchen

A lot of patchwork scraps sewn by a sweet lady: she couldn't believe that I was interested in her work, so she never finished to thank me for the purchase! Now I have to sew them together, they are so many... we will see the result

A Pucci and a pink shantung new headbands: ok, I guess they did not have idea of what they were selling...

Lastly, of course the china: unmatched floral cups and saucers for my collection and two twins candle holders which I need  for a tiny new project...

Do you believe if I tell you that my £ 20.00 budget was enough?

Tropical mood

October is already here, the autumn is coming... and I surprise myself admiring this tropical house, figuring to get up in the morning and have my breakfast under the pergola maybe walking barefoot on beautiful antique rugs...
