Coloured vintage

I've never done it, I generally avoid to publish photos of houses found somewhere in the web.
You'd probably know that I like make and then show things done by me, or at least interesting stuff that I have discovered and that I love.
But what to do if I've seen in another blog an house that is perfectly in my style and where I wouldn't change anything? Why do not share?

It is a 19th century rural house in the North of Spain, in the country around Orense, in the Galicia region. It has been restored with a very particular style by the local interior design company Oito Interiores.

Mi piace tutto! / I love everything!

I mobili recuperati / The vintage furniture
i toni naturali accostati ad un po' di colore vivo / the neutral and bright colours
i materiali grezzi / the raw materials
pochi pezzi di design mimetizzati / few mixed design objects
le tracce dei viaggi / signs of some previous trips
gli spunti romantici e floreali... / something floral and romantic...
il mix perfetto / the perfect mix

all STAR (with) STARS

Every morning and every afternoon I walk past the most amazing and luxury windows... luckily I don't like the heels (despite my brother's attempts to transform me).
To be honest the only thing I really would like to buy are these shoes:

Chloe' studded ankle boots

Then I have to add that I'm sorrounded by teenagers, even those that have been once, covered by studs, on their body or their accessories.
But before investing my salary to take away my desire to studs... Ebay and a bit of imagination have helped me: star shaped studs!

Here is my experiment, I've tried on my Converse:

Maybe the next to be studded will be the ballerinas, then my boots.

Well done Elizabeth!

The past weekend we took part, with Elizabeth, into the London to Brighton Mini Run 2012 competition, an annual parade of classic Mini from London to the seafront in Brighton.
You cannot imagine how amazing experience (I'm preparing a post)!
Elizabeth behaved very well, considering that she is an old lady and it's rarely used she was really good, I'm so proud of her.

So I've decided to give her a present... Actually, A. is very sweet with her and often gives her gifts but they are not the kind of present I can be part of (mirrors, rims, tires, everything strictly original).
I wanted to thank her personally for the nice trip, so I've tested myself in sewing.
What better than a new key-ring? It's for her a fashion accessory, like a bag for a woman, you can not wear always the same one.

Ecco i passaggi / Here the steps

1.

Needlepoint Elizabeth's silhouette (I've used DMC cotton and canvas #15)

2.

Filling and a piece of cardboard inside, and scrap of floral fabric for the back

3.

Finiture
Finish

The result is not bad to be my first experiment in sewing!
I must admit that the hardest part has been hand sewing the border. I didn't find any cord I liked, but I liked the sparkling effect of this thread.

Speriamo che la signorina gradisca!
I hope Elizabeth will enjoy it!

Renew your cross stitch style

Mint (or green apple) sorbet is for sure the color that has most impressed me this spring... I love it.
In spite of the Tangerine Tango (that is orange) that has been launched as the trend Pantone of spring 2012, I think this pale green much more delicate and romantic... and it fits with everything, more or less (but who cares?)
Enjoy the Pantone 14-0116 Margarita and the 14-5420 Cockatoo!

Ecco la mia selezione, come sempre dall'utile al futile:
Here is my mint selection, as usual from useful to frivolous:

1. Royal Albert 1939 Polka Rose Mug
2. Knob from Antropologie
3. Maroccan Mint Tea from Fortnum and Mason
4. Ladureé Sucré Recipe Book

5. Lace T-Shirt from Zara Kids
6. RAR Rocker Chair Eames

[Pictures source here]

How to miss some mint in cooking? It's so fragrant that only passing close to the pot invite you for a mojito!

Animal glass jars... and cabinet tidy for 10 minutes!

There is something mystical in tiding the cabinets... I very rarely do it, but after I feel better.
It's the same for the kitchen's cabinets, that are easier to reorganize and so probably they give me more satisfaction.
Never mind that this order and cleaning resist for few hours, just till the next cooking session... I can hope in going out for dinner or for a home delivery!
I've reorganized my kitchen cabinet and finally I have used my collection of glass jars (let me say that keeping them empty is a waste of space, not a great idea!)

Thanks to the new entry self adhesive chalkboard paper (from Amazon) and the toy animal figurines just painted (idea from the web) I'm satisfied of my work...
Neutral colours white and beige add to my jars an elegant touch but the zigzag labels and the animals are quite pop!

Tip: the lip covered with fabric is pretty nice, but I think it's very uncomfortable, especially for things that have to be used often and maybe hurriedly. So I've used a bit of double sided tape to fix it!

I don't like anything related to the bathroom. I mean all the objects that are designed to be placed there... It's like they are thought to have less value, less character.
Probably for this reason I tend to put other things in the bathroom, objects that are supposed to be used elsewhere. So the bathroom becomes another room to be designed and to whom give a personality.
I enjoy looking for alternatives to use as soap case and giving a different function to the objects.
Then, I like also pictures on the bathroom walls... but this could be a future post.

Here is, for example, my toothbrush holder:

Seletti Estetico Quotidiano "The Milk Jug"

Recentemente ho trovato questi:

Talking about accessories, I can tolerate something, but what I really can't stand are the traditional bath mats. If it were just for me, I would put a proper rug (I've done for a while...) but it is not practical and it never dries!
I recently found these:

Striped, colourful, with a bit of gold in contrast with the black and white checkered floor.

They are a present from my mum (from a stall at Portobello). Antropologie classifies them as place mats, but the bigger size is enough to be used as mats.

Pub style... and something else

Do you remember Lego salt and Pepper?
We have used them for a while, and they are really nice, but let's say not very functional.
So here are the new entries... much more comfortable, big enough to be used in the everyday life, just like the pub style.

Glass salt and pepper shakers PLUS Ketchup and mustard squeezy bottles

And why do not complete with some accessories bakery style?

Sugar and cocoa retro glass dispenser

Sono accessori comodi, semplici e secondo me bellissimi perché classici e senza tempo.

I think they are accessories simple and beautiful because they are classical and timeless.
They are cheap, since they can be found everywhere! For instance, I bought them in one of those shops that sells everything, housewares, hardware...

Fabric tape

I had stopped keeping everything for future use, storing pieces of everything that was hard to reuse, but due to the blog and my job I'm starting again to collect scraps of fabric, among other stuff.
Then I found this cute and brilliant idea, so simple: the fabric tape. So I could reuse even some small pieces of different fabrics...

You just need some scraps and a good double sided tape, as well as a bit of attention.
For detailed instruction, please read here... simple and very clear, thanks Roberta!

Waiting for the opportunity for using them (a nice package, a birthday card, a decoration...) I've rolled them up on corks, the first suitable thing I found at home... they are lovely also for a small gift!

Wish List

There are purchases that are thoughtful and not impulsive, because they are not exactly cheap...
And there are purchases that are made with a light heart, that make you happy, that when you leave the shop you go home, discard and show them smiling.

To me they are the purchases of the good mood, you don't have to spend a lot of money and they are so cute that just looking at them is a pleasure...
It's needless to say that I'm in the home of the stupid things... sorry, I meant things without which you cannot live, but almost always unnecessary.

So, sometimes I give myself a special excusable treat... here is my current wish list, including the last purchases:

1. Butter dish at Antropologie
2. Glass dome cake at Tkmaxx
3. Checkered tea spoons at Antropologie
4. Kusmi Tea

5. Home Made cookie stamper at Such UK
6. Pastel pink stoneware dishes at Le Creuset (on sale at Tkmaxx)
7. Alphabet stamp set at Amazon
8. Tart server Leif (buy them at Fortnum and Mason)

I just missed cooking to add another occasion for shopping!

I'm making progress in baking

I'm slowly but progressively making progress.

Slow 'cause I do not have time... although sometimes I start to knead at 11 pm...
Progressive 'cause I finally became familiar with my oven and this has significantly improved my performance. What else I like it, I enjoy it, and it's a new world that makes me proud (sometimes I'm happy just with little!)

Oggi vi mostro cosa ho recentemente combinato in cucina:
Today I show you what I've recently done in the kitchen:

Mela e Barbabietola / Apple and Beetroot Muffins

Now, without any pretension and with modesty because I really feel a novice at baking, I would like to share a recipe.
It is the classic short pastry and I hope it would be useful.
Before finding this one I've tried with several, with a lot of unsuccessful experiments... It was too soft or too hard, always too sticky.
Instead this is perfect, even if you are not a cooking wizard!

300g farina / plain flour
un cucchiaio di lievito / a tablespoon of yeast
succo di limone e scorzette / lemon juice and zest
125g burro / butter
75g zucchero a velo / icing sugar
2 uova / eggs
un pizzico di sale / a pinch of salt
estratto di vaniglia / vanilla extract

Ho scritto gli ingredienti nell'ordine in cui vanno aggiunti all'impasto
The ingredients are in the order to be used.

Unfortunately I don't remember where I found the recipe... I definitely found it in the web, so I have to apologize with the author. However, THANK YOU!

Lemon Meringue Pie (with Ice Cream and Mango-Kiwi)

BUONA SETTIMANA!
HAVE A NICE WEEK!

One year ago... [part 2: living in the UK]

After my little home, I think it's right to take stock of the situation on my being here.
I have to learn and to understand a lot of things... (by the way I have a special mentor, my friend H.)
But I have assimilated something, and I'm making good use... here are in no particular order funny or not things that -I think- are making me better:

There are some strange and invented job, there are not ordinary lives, there are a lot of people who still believe in their own dreams and who is trying to live their life close to their ideal one.
It's never too late to change direction, in your life in general and at work too. Adjusting the way is not a defeat
I can live with my hair down (and with gusts of wind)

The flexibility is possible, but only if... the list of the things that are supposed to change in Italy to make it possible is too long and boring for this blog, anyway you already know...
(see above) Education and respect are the key points of live and let others live, but integrity and ethic are the bases (of course the shared ones, not your own personal vision that otherwise authorize you to do what you want)

Everything is relative, there's always somebody who proudly wear fluo or leopard leggings and doesn't care about her bottom size (my self-esteem thanks her)
The importance of citizenship, of being part of something and being proud... here the English maximize all they have, as the parks or even the street lights that are much more nice decorated with flowers!
I'm never the worst dressed, but neither the most elegant. There will be always somebody else with better shoes (let's consider please...)
