I'm in trouble...

Sono nei guai...

Ho sempre amato:
i colori caldi,

I'm in trouble...

I've always loved:
warm colors,
mixed styles,
something ethnic and oriental,
a touch of gold,
something baroque.

Well,  this would be the definition of my perfect style till now.

But now what happens?
I'm starting to like home like this one, where the white reigns supreme, with some hints of cool colour, beige and grey, wood and raw metal. Very English, a little shabby...

I repeat: I'm in trouble!

Happy Tartan

The tartan always haunts goes with me. I was a little girl with a kilt, then a teenager with a tartan room of course coordinated with my brother's one. One day my brother went to a double bed... and so I also get his set and I went to the university with my tartan duvet.

After a few years of rest, I felt again, it must be in the genes.
Now I often wear tartan skirts and accessories (again the ones mentioned above... at the end my kilts are back in their native country). I like to match it with the denim, with something very feminine as the lace, or even with something spotted, who cares in London?

Waiting for Scotland, I like a touch of tartan at home.
I like as upholstery for an old armchair
I like different patterns and colours together
I like the "new" versions (if you don't know Avoca, have a look)
I like to mix it with other strong patterns, maybe floral or paisley
I love the matching pink + brown
I almost like even the carpet, maybe for a rug...

Tartan

New look

A lot of things are changing... recently it's like we got on a wheel that keeps spinning, luckily in the right direction! I wonder if this is the way that things happen, step by step? Is this the way to give a direction to your life? I do not want to be too deep, but sometimes I'm still surprised where I am, what I'm doing... it's like somewhere in my head this London life was just an experience, a break from the real life... But it isn't , this is real life indeed! Maybe this is not a diversion from the main road, but a different new road...

While I'm trying to make up my mind and while out of the web everything is changing, the Atelier Buffo cannot be left behind... so new look for the header as well!

The logo is the same since the beginning, I love it, has been designed by Cate, reminds me her support, the beginnings, the doubts I had, the suggestions which I could not do without.
Even the quote is still there: it's a phrase by Modigliani that I found on a bookmark years ago in Vienna that is always with me.
But everything else has changed, I was looking for something lighter.
You can see a bit of the Atelier Buffo story, and of me behind: it is becoming more and more a collection of my inspirations and what I like about the"home",  of the projects I make with my hands, a diary of my life as an emigrated in London, a city that... I say it clearly... I LOVE! And since I am not alone in this adventure, you can also find A.!

Che dite, vi piace?
Do you like it?

Ombre tassels

Aside from the fact that at Anthropologie I 'd buy everything (thanks for the mugs!) ... Sometimes I just make a ride for my pleasure: the windows and he installations are always a great inspiration.
A bit tribal, a bit shabby, a bit vintage and a lot of recovered stuff, the mix fascinates me: the different styles are always well balanced.

In the shop in King's Road appeared huge hanging decorations, something between garlands and chandeliers, made by tassels done with rope and tulle, in neutral tones with a touch of pink.
So, inspired by Anthropologie, here is my project:

Per immagini i passaggi:
Here are the steps picture by picture:

- lasciate asciugare a lungo...

More precisely, to make the tassels I recommend this tutorial, while for the colouring step follow the instructions on the packaging of the product you use.

A few tips:
- do the second phase outside, the risk of staining is high!
- in order to obtain the gradient, dip the highest part for a short time, while leave the tips in immersion longer
- at the end, rinsed with water only the coloured part to avoid that the colour goes on the white part
- let them dry for a long time...

I used a 100% cotton string to make sure that the colour works.

Then, I added a ring and finished the tassels in the traditional way by rolling the string at the top.

Autumn palette

As it happens in the spring, suddently one morning I noticed the changes... I may be half asleep, but I'm a careful observer anyway.
However I realize that almost overnight:

the plants in the gardens have been pruned
the first lights are in the house, maybe remnants of Halloween or early Christmas decorations
the sidewalks are carpets of leaves
the colours have changed

Sorry to say it again, but in this city I love the autumn. I like to come into the office or at home or in a pub and be enveloped by the warmth, I like the steamed windows in the car, I like the light, I like that finally it's not cold only here... to be honest autumn here is a mild long season...

Stitch by stitch... my Union Jack

E' finito!

It's finished! Finally, after six months or maybe more, my first needlepoint project is complete.
Of course it is a tiny cushion, a tribute to the legendary Union Jack and to what I've done till now here in UK.
I designed it personally, I have seen before the flowers come out, then the background cover slowly, it has been with me everywhere during the last months, as the Linus blanket... but how long it is! To tell you the truth I was able to finish only thanks to the blog, or better, to the blog on holidays, that allow me to have more free time available.

Then, once finished... I chose the fabric for the back and the trimming.
Cotton: Liberty... Of course, I love it!
Pompoms: John Lewis
The great thing about these works is that they really last a lifetime (with all the time it took me!)... When you get bored you can remake the cushion with a new fabric or a new cord.
Actually, about the making up, it has been done by my friend Marika, she is an expert (THANKS!) What a satisfaction when I had it in my hands!

Size: 26x26cm
Canvas: #18 (so the design is defined)

Autumn sky

Quest'anno poi in particolare...

I think that the autumn is not just a season of transition: the months that separate summer from winter, the sea from the mountains are always a new beginning. Even now I do not go to school anymore, I restart in autumn, with thousands of plan and purpose, much more than at the beginning of the year. This year in particular...

I love the autumn, I like its colors, the people and the city that get moving, wrapping a scarf, boots, colored tights... and here I like the sky!
The sky can be gray, but it is never gray for long. Then it comes back to be blue, and what a blue! It 'a bright blue, which makes all the colours more shining, the red bricks, the white buildings, the parks that turn yellow and rusty, and the white fluffy clouds.
Or it is pink at sunset in a light day...

Buon autunno Londra!
Enjoy the London's autumn!

By me: mezzopunto alè, con fun stitches

Entrambe zucche da appendere come quadretti!
