Christmas time... let's start!

Okay... let's start to post something related to Christmas...
Due to the fact that here (in London) you can find decorations since August I have lost a bit the sense of the time and I had the feeling of being far too early! But now the count down has started... then I begin!
Actually I thought about starting with something soft...

Last weekend my mum came to visit me and together we had a three-day intensive shopping! What wonders I've seen...

Just to let me know a little better to and give you my personal opinion... here is my podium of "atmosphere and Christmas shopping" in London's department stores:

Absolutly the number 1 always and in all seasons... it makes me feel good, with a timeless and cuddly atmosphere... it has on me the effect of the window of Tiffany's on Holly!

Here is my latest purchase... the musical biscuits box... What a pity you cannot hear the Jingle Bell!

As the real one (without Santa!)

90% inaccessible for clothing and accessories... the textiles and stationery departments are wonderful... and I love the creak of the wooden stairs and floors!

Christmas department is at level -1... the one of the home accessories and firniture... how many goodies!

For the kitchen

They are all ceramic pieces and refer to the world of fairy tales... maybe it is the total-white, I find them ironical but also very delicate!

PS: ma vi piace il logo natalizio?? / Do you like the Xmas header??

Cate's Monday [wardrobe]

Maybe the title of this post is a bit reductive...
Because the work for trasforming the old closet in what you can see above took a long time and it was tiring, but for sure it was worth it!
Unfortunately, for Cate and me, the problem is to have patience... and the patience is an essential element in these kind of works... but it is so exciting to start something new that we can't wait to see it finished!
And times of paints, of wood and glue are so slow...

So... this was an old four doors wardrobe and as many furniture from the past has large dimensions, it is very capacious and noble-finished, things that are quite difficult to find nowadays (if you don't want to spend a fortune!)

Eccolo dopo il restauro / Here it is after the redecoration

Sugar cubes

Today an experiment in the kitchen, you can have a look at the original one on this blog... (it has been suggested to me by Ciusi*). I just modified the original tutorial in order to have coloured sugar cubes...

Good morning!

Ingredienti / Ingredients:
Zucchero granulato bianco / Granulated white sugar
Acqua / Water
Colorante alimentare / Food colouring

I have to admit that my first attempt failed... it is not difficult but you have to use the right amounts of water and colouring!
If there is too much water, the crystals melt... if you overdo with the colouring they will never dry!

What NOT to do!

Procedimento / How to:

Pour a few drops of water on the sugar, little by little, and mix. It has to be a pasty consistency but keep the grainy look.

Add 1-2 drops of food colouring to suit your needs, not more... stir until the colour is uniform.

Fill the molds and press the sugar
TIP: the sugar cubes must not be too high, otherwise they take a long time to dry

4. Lasciate asciugare... almeno una notte
Let it dry... at least overnight

5. Capovolgete con cura lo stampo...
Carefully turn the mold upside down...

Eccoli... d'effetto e super econominci!!!
Here they are... so cute and cheap!!!

* è d'obbligo aprire una parentesi...

[Dovrete abituarvi a questo nome... CIUSI...

* I must digress...
[You'll have to get used to that name... CIUSI... it is a game started years ago, it is a universal name, a code... however, the first thing is that CIUSI is a friend!]

Chalk it!

CHALK!

When I studied English in Italy I was sure that "LAVAGNA" meant BLACKBOARD here...
I think I have learnt it since I was at the primary school, it is a quite old concept in my mind!
Well, it is correct... but I discovered another word that opened a new world to me... CHALK!

Here in London the chalkboard style is everywhere, shops, pubs, on signes, on objects... any surface can be chalked!
And a lot of usefull product are made for, such as paint or adhesive roll paper...

Obviously I couldn't resist... I bought everything I need to transform my home in a chalkboard! But I wouldn't get carried away... so I'm sipping my works...

For now I show you what a friend of mine has done (some times ago, so congratulations for your originality!):

Cate's Monday [the entrance]

Buongiorno e buon lunedì! Good Monday morning!

Today a new series of posts begins. They will arrive every Monday for some weeks...
I want to share the creations of a friend of mine who, like me, has an unhealty passion for discovering and redecorating furniture and other old object!
Her house and also the garden (to considering Ema too) are amazing and always in progress, and every detail reveals the personality of the owners... basically, this is a house that makes you feel like AT HOME!

Let's start from the entrance... I think it is the ideal first step to go inside Cate's world (of course, she is the same Cate of WE LOVE!)

E a terra cosa c'è? La cassapanca...

Mustard charme [part 2]: vases and British tastes

In order not to rob the shops in the area (working in South Kensinghton is dangerous) but satisfy my desire of MUSTARD COLOUR... I limited myself to:

1. un acquisto vintage simpaticissimo / a funny vintage shopping

dalle molteplici personalità / of various uses:
omino con impermeabile / man with raincoat
barattolo porta spaghetti / spaghetti jar
vaso per fiori / vase for flowers

2. un progetto DIY facile facile / a easy peasy DIY project:

Before

That is, how to make coloured glass bottles.
I skip the instructions, to know how please have a look here.
Just one tip (personally tested: be patient... let dry completely before touch!)

3. una generosa dose di zuccheri / a generous serving of sugar:

Hot Apple and Cherry crumble pudding with a bottomless custard jug...

Mustard charm [part 1]: suggestions

Non è propriamente giallo... è una sfumatura.
Il color senape fa autunno, non trovate? Ma è un autunno caldo, avvolgente...
Recentemente scoperto (da me che ho una malsana passione per i rossi e i rosa), sento l'impulso all'acquisto di qualche oggetto in questa nuance, abbigliamento compreso!

It is not a properly yellow... it is a shade.
The mustard colour is related to the autumn, a warm autumn.
Recently discovered (by me that I have an unhealty passion for red and pink), I fell the impulse to buy something in this shade, clothing included!

Quindi oggi qualche suggestione senape... in preparazione al prossimo post!
So today some mustard suggestions... to prepare the next post!

Welcome Elizabeth! (in black and white)

Buon inizio di settimana / Good start to your week

Tutto inizia sabato mattina presto...

My week starts wearily, after a busy but amazing weekend!
It all begins on early Saturday morning...
One hour and a half by train from London... to collect a very important vintage purchase...

WELCOME ELIZABETH
(not the Queen... maybe Elizabeth Bennet??)

Once collected, we put her to the test immediately... sea as destination!

A light dessert

E poi passeggiata in spiaggia / Then a walk on the beach...

The winter sea is always charming (actually, it is not very different in summer here!)

Finally the homecoming... driving as the first time roads done a thousandfold by foot, by scooter, by cab, by bus...
From now on Elizabeth will take me around to seek out new markets... I'm already looking forward to next weekend!
Who knows goodies I'll find, in roads less travelled than the ones in London!

Please sit... on this bar stool

For the kitchen counter, we needed at least a stool...
We never eat there, but we chat while cooking, and above all... that is the location of out 'home-aperitif!
I didn't want a modern one, so I went looking for the typical wooden tool, as you see in the pubs... and last week I found it in a charity shop:

So on... but was the color palette of this week lavender, wasn't it??
Of course... have a look after the Atelier Buffo's job:

Lavender inspiration

Conoscete Pinterest?

Do you know Pinterest?
It's an amazing website... a view is enough to fall in love and the images are fashinating.
When I visited it for the first time I got lost in a world of colorful and delicate images.
Then I wondered... how could I use it? I have to admit it is also very usefull!
It allows you to share your pictures and creations, to organize what you have on your notebook and to discover a lot of new ideas, blogs and more!

Something about me...

Buongiorno!!
Good morning!!

Today no project... or better... I won't show you any restored, bought or painted object... but I will talk about a project, basically a big project!

A friend of mine (I.) has suggested to me to write a little more about me... It is not easy for me, I have to get loose a bit, but today I have a chance!

This blog was born from the dream that the Atelier Buffo might become big in the future! I had to start from the beginning...
In these early months I have had many satisfactions, it made me company, it gave me the way to explore new worlds, to get in touch with some interesting people, to make order in my material, to feel closed the loved ones...
It's not a little, indeed!

I've been living in London for four months...
Yes, I have been worked for almost five years in Italy, and then I played the sabbatical card... and I moved to UK!
Quoting another friend (C.) I know I am lucky...
My family has not hindered me at all (even if they have not broached champagne at the news!), friends encouraged me and I feel  as if some of them were here with me(actually they come often to visit me... "I've been in London 1,000,000 times! (R) "

Well, I'm not alone here... the city is amazing, London Calling... but for me also Love Calling!
For me it hasn't been easy to take the decision, I am so pragmatic, I always evaluate every detail... But then I said to myself "when could you have another chance like this one? So.. try!"

So, here I am... I live with A. (the name Atelier Buffo is his copyright) who always  manages to give proper weight to things, makes me pull my feet off the ground and always considers the glass completely full... I have to arrange a new little house (the one I had in Italy is the most saturated apartment on the earth!)... to start this blog ...

What was missing?? Basically... a job (unfortunatly you can't live only with your dreams!)
And it arrived! I also started this new adventure...
I'm really happy... it is not a job in a pub (sorry, it is a revenge on those who havetried to discourage me!) but it is exactly what I was looking for!

Very soon I'm going to tell you about the job with calm...

What to add? Today I compete with "Cinderfuckinrella"... but sometimes you have to be a little lucky!

Thanks to all...

PS: I will do my best not to neglect the Atelier Buffo... It is not a hobby, I really believe in it!

..............................................

Quindi... grazie per aver letto fin qui... continuate a seguirmi!
Il colore della settimana è... LAVANDA!
So... thank you for reading so far... follow me!
The color of the week is... LAVENDER!

Robe turche... Turkish pot mat!

Proseguono le cose turche... oggi i sottopentola!
Uno è originale, l'altro fatto da me...

Let's carry on with Turkish things... today the trivets!
One is original, the other one is made by me...

Ho trasformato una piastrella in stile ottomano in sottopentola semplicemente incollando sotto dei gommini... carino vero?

Robe turche... Turkish chandelier!

In Morocco the sellers called me "Berber" for my bargaining skills... I could hangle over the price for long time to make a purchase! At the beginning it was nerve-wracking... but then you run away with the process and it becomes fun ...
So in Istanbul I put in practice the experience gained in the previous trip...
To get this fabulous chandelier, it took an entire morning and much tea!
Yes, because shopping in the bazaar does not end without a good cup of sweet chai and a lot of patient!

By night

But it was really worth it! I could choose color and size of each piece of beautiful stained glass lamps...  and I brought home a very personal chandelier...
