WANTED: Summer

" Senti, ma tu cosa ne pensi se..."
Quando A. inizia una frase con questa premessa mi allarmo, vuol dire che sta cambiando idea rispetto a qualcosa che gia' avevamo deciso, o che mi sta dicendo qualcosa che non mi fara' piacere.

Per fortuna stavolta era la prima... e per farla breve: i nostri progetti di vacanza in Cornovaglia stanno vacillando. Mi stupisco che la cosa non sia venuta da me, ma non posso biasimarlo...
La causa non e' altro che questa estate schifosa, questa pioggia continua, la voglia di uscire in maglietta e dimenticarsi di tutto... maglionicino, giacca, ombrello, sciarpa, magari anche scarpe di ricambio in borsa.
Fortunatamente non abbiamo prenotato nulla e c'e' ancora tempo... quindi io voglio dare ancora fiducia al cielo inglese... poi vedremo, magari all'ultimo cambiamo idea e ci dirottiamo su un'isola greca!

"What do you think if..."

When A. begins a sentence with this premise I'm alarmed, it means he is changing his mind about something already decided, or he's telling me something that would probably drive me mad.  

Fortunately it was the first thing... let me tell you shortly: our holiday plans in Cornwall are tottering. I am surprised that it's not due to me, but I cannot blame him...

The cause is just this terrible summer, this notstop rain, the desire to go out with a shirt and to forget all the rest, the sweater, the jacket, the umbrella, the scarf, maybe even another pair of shoes.

Fortunately we haven't booked anything and we have time... so I want to even trust the English weather... then we will see, maybe at the last minute we will deviate to a Greek island!

Prima di Londra, la domenica era la giornata piu' insipida della settimana... non ci sono le aspettative per il weekend del venerdi' e del sabato, e in piu' ha qualcosa di malinconico, sara' la settimana che si chiude ma credo di piu' la consapevolezza della nuova settimana lavorativa che si apre.

E poi la domenica e' spesso e volentieri dedicata agli spostamenti, e quindi ai saluti (stazioni, aeroporti)... i negozi sono chiusi, alla televisione ci sono solo schifezze... ecc ecc.

Invece adesso e' la mia giornata preferita! Ma quante cose ci sono da fare la domenica a Londra???? Una delle mie preferite, come sapete, sono i mercati delle pulci.

Cosi' domenica scorsa ci siamo andati con una coppia di amici in visita, con Elizabeth (la Mini macchina, vintage pure lei): sfidando le possibili intemperie, che per fortuna ci hanno graziato, li abbiamo portati nella Londra meno turistica. 

Abbiamo acquistato tutti, noi senza limiti (il bagagliaio della macchina invece del sottosella della Vespa e' stata una grande evoluzione... ma tranquilli, il budget e' davvero irrisorio), i nostri amici con qualche limitazione ma comunque con soddisfazione (Ryanair dictat!)

Once Sunday was the most dull day of the week... there are no expectations for the weekend like on Friday and Saturday, and it is a bit gloomy, maybe because the week is finishing or maybe because you know that a new working week is coming.

On Sunday people travel and say goodbye to family, stations and airports are busy, but the shops are closed, there's only crap on TV... etc. etc..

Now, instead Sunday is my favorite day! How many things you can do in London on Sunday? One of my favorites, as you know, are the flea markets.

So last Sunday we went there with a couple of friends visiting us from Italy, and with Elizabeth (the Mini car, she's also vintage): challenging the possible bad weather we took them to the less tourist London.

We all bought something, A. and me without limits (the boot of the car is now much better than the Vespa... but do not worry, we had a limited budget), our friends with some limitations but with satisfaction (Ryanair dictates!)

Un omaggio alle coppie reali minori, queste mi mancavano nella mia collezione kitsch, e tazzine per caffe' (pensate sia facile trovarle carine qui?)

A tribute to the other real couples, I was missing them in my kitsch collection, and two coffee cups (it's not easy to find pretty ones here) 

Vi ho detto che il pensile della cucina qualche settimana fa e' caduto e mi sono ritrovata quasi tutte le mie tazzine collezionate con cura in frantumi? "Leggero" disagio durato una settimana per fortuna non causato dall'eccessivo carico ma da un tubo intasato della vicina, che ha pero' ridotto il nostro muro una spugna... No, non ho pianto, NO NO! Pero' vediamo i lati positivi, posso ricominciare a collezionare.

I didn't tell you that a few weeks ago the kitchen cupboard fell down and I found almost all my carefully collected pottery shattered? It has been just a light inconvenience lasted a week, luckily not caused by excessive load, but by a clogged pipe of my neighbor, which has transformed the wall into a sponge... I did not cry, didn't I? But the sunny side is that I can start collecting new stuff.

Specchio: e' il secondo che trovo... adoro questi vecchi specchi art deco sagomati, senza cornici ma con bordi smerigliati da appendere con la catena.

A mirror: I love these old art deco shaped mirrors, unframed and scalloped edged to hang by a chain, this is my second one.

E infine... io sono la bimba piu' felice del mondo, ho trovato un tesoro!!!!

Uno sgabello (?) pieno di accessori e cosine utilissime per il cucito, tutto rigorosamente vecchissimo... guardate il packaging

E' in ottime condizioni, le gambe sono perfette, ma il rivestimento non mi piace proprio e lo rifaro' sicuramente! 

A stool (?) full of useful accessories and little tools for sewing, all strictly very old... look at the packaging.

It 's in very good condition, the legs are perfect, but I don't really like the the upholstery and I'm quite sure it would be my next project!

Dressed up garden table

Che la mia mamy si sbizzarrisca con ago, filo e pizzi e' cosa nota (vedere qui, qui, qui, qui e qui)... quello che a me risulta un po' strano e' il fatto che, dopo anni di total white, sia passata al colore, e che colore!

Quando ero ancora in casa, guai ad accennare cambiamenti non neutri, ricordo di essere stata autorizzata a colorare di rosso una parete della mia camera dopo la laurea.

E ora mi stupisce con arancione, rosso, fucsia... benvenuto colore!

My mum enjoys sewing, that's not a news (have a look here, here, here, here and here)... what surprises me and sounds a little strange to me is that, after years of total white, she has started using colour, a lot of!

Since I was still at home, please don't mention any changes far from the neutral colours, I remember I have been allowed to paint a red wall of my room after my graduation.

And now she wonders me with orange, red, pink... welcome color!

Questo tavolo ci accompagna da sempre, e' di sicuro piu' vecchio di me e forse anche della mia mamma. Lo ricordo ancora bianco in campagna, poi color ferro in citta'... e ora fucsia per l'estate 2012.

This table has been with us forever, it is definitely older than me and maybe than my mum. I still remember it in white in the country, then grey in the town's garden... and now it is pink for the summer 2012.

Well done mummy, I love it!

Sole cuore amore (Sicilia)

Sarete anche stufi di Londra... un po' anche io a dire la verità!

Vi ho detto dove andiamo in vacanza? Con po' di masochismo... rullo di tamburi: Cornovaglia!

Ho voglia di visitare questo paese al di fuori di Londra, e sono curiosissima di vedere la campagna inglese.

Ho visto pochissimo, escluse alcune citta' dove tra l'altro ero gia' stata.

Quindi sono entusiasta, una vacanza relax con il nostro potente mezzo!

Pero'... so gia' che per un aspetto mi pentirò tutto l'anno della scelta, un po' di sole e mare, possibilmente caldissimi, sono necessari al corpo e allo spirito, soprattutto al mio!

Vedremo... intanto io mi rincuoro con i ricordi: Sicilia!

Did I tell you where we are planning to go on holiday? With a bit of masochism we have decided for...  the Cornwall!
I want to visit this country, and I'm very curious to see the English countryside.
I have seen very little, except some cities, which I had already visited.
So I'm excited, a relaxing holiday with our powerful car!
But... I already know that for one point, I'll regret this choice during the next months. Any body and any spirit, especially mine,  needs a little of sun and sea, possibly very hot!
We will see... Meanwhile I am heartened by the memories of Sicily.

Lo so, potrebbe sembrare una frase provocatoria visto il periodo storico, ma vi assicuro che la situazione italiana non c'entra...

Down with the sobriety! I know this may sound  provocative since the historic period, but I assure you that the Italian situation has nothing to do...

Io ormai ne sono assuefatta, non mi stupisco piu' delle meravigliose creazioni, fermagli, cerchietti, cappellini che si trovano dappertutto, dalle bancarelle di Portobello e Brick Lane ai piu' lussuosi department store di Londra.

Di gran lunga tradizione in UK (vedi Royal Wedding 2011 e Ascot), fino a qualche anno fa probabilmente venivi rinchiusa alla neuro se ti presentavi con una cofana di capelli accessoriata ad un matrimonio, ma ora fiori e velette sono sdoganati anche in Italia.

(per la cronaca, sono la fornitrice/importatrice ufficiale di piume e accessori vari, li compro senza che ce ne sia l'occasione... non si sa mai, possono sempre servire per una festa in maschera!)

Amiche, vi ricorda qualcosa questo argomento??? Un addio al nubilato alla ricerca del cerchietto di gruppo... un annetto fa... mi mancate!!

I now I'm used to seeing and I'm not surprised of the wonderful creations, clips, headbands, hats, which are  everywhere, from the stalls of Portobello and Brick Lane to the most luxurious department store in London. 

The hair accessories have a long tradition in the UK (see Royal Wedding and Ascot). 

In Italy until a few years ago you were probably confined to the neuro if you came to a ceremony with your hair equipped with flowers and veils, which now are accepted.

(For the record, I'm the official supplier / importer of feathers and hair  accessories, since I buy them even if I don't have any special occasion planned... you never know, they may be useful for a  costume party!) 

Girlfriends, does it remind you of anything?? A hen party long weekend looking for the wedding accessories... a year ago... I miss you!

un po' Maracaibo, un po' cuffia della doccia della nonna... sicuramente esagerato, ma mi sono proprio divertita! Mi sa che e' il primo di una serie...

a bit Maracaibo, a bit grandmother's shower cap style... it's for sure an exaggeration, but I really enjoyed it! I know that it will be the first of a series...
