Sunday {shabby} shopping

I quote the conversation of last Sunday morning:
"Do we go by car to the car boot sale?"
"It's better by scooter... it's sunny... and it's late, maybe we won't find anything interesting!"

Famous last words...
Elizabeth' s boot is not so large but we have to consider that we were almost taking home a 2m statue of liberty...

Our last Sunday morning at the flea market has been amazing, probably thanks to the bright sun and to a chat with the sellers.

Ecco il bottino / Here is the loot:

Mensolina ad angolo per la cucina

Pomelli... per qualche prossimo restauro

Adesso posso iniziare con le erbe aromatiche

Per il coperchio della prossima alzatina

Roses chalkboard

E siamo solo all'inizio della bella stagione!

As if on purpose I've looked for all these items together... everything white, with antique flavor, slightly shabby...
The day before I've gone to Antropologie looking for inspiration... I like everything, but what prices!
Again, no disappointment... And it is only the beginning of the good season!

The doors

And after the bricks... What is more typical of London than the coloured doors?
I really do not understand how this city can be defined as grey... this is one of those myths like "it always rains here"... But I promise to write soon a post about these beliefs...

Today I just show a personal (and little) collection of the entrance doors of the houses in London.

Colore colore colore colore

Colour colour colour colour
as a contrast to the brick facades or to the total white...
often as the handrail of the stairs to the basement...
 or as the garden fence...
or even better as the floral composition...

That is, the creative recycling of a brick.
The London bricks are very famous, they have a particular colour... and they are very popular.
The Victorian houses and most of the not recent buildings are all made by bricks, natural or painted.

Some interior walls are often brick built, in the pubs or even in the private houses. The wall where there is the fireplace in our house is in white bricks...
Anyway...  in the garden we have a certain amount of bricks, left there for some reason.
The rooms in my house change according to the folding doors which close or open the folding doors ... so I really need some doorstop.

But as usual I have not found anything that I liked (and not too expensive!)... then:

1+1=2
cioè... mattone fermaporta!
easy peasy... brick doorstop!

Alcuni consigli / Some tips:

Clean the brick very well using a brush, and if you wash it then let it dry for a long time (several days). It can't be wet inside.

If it is damaged, it's better fix it before starting to paint (fill cracks with silicone)

Don't paint directly the brick but remember to use a strong primer because it is porous and can absorb the varnish.

I've done four bricks, two white and two gold... they look like ingots!

What's a car boot sale?

I've written a lot about them... and sometimes I show you my purchases... but I've not yet shared any image of an English flea market.
Please do not imagine anything exceptional! Generally they take place over the weekend, every week or once a month, in a car parks or in a school grounds.
The sellers arrive
early in the morning (very early)... and then the buyers, who pay a symbolic fee of maximum £ 1 maximum...

You can find pretty much everything on sale... even things that I want to say "How can you even remotely thinking about selling it? Let's throw it!"
In fact the name "car boot sale" is quite clear... Fill your car boot with all the trunk you have and you don't use... and try to sell somethingth!
I have to admit that you can always find something interesting and really cheap...

Apart from the purchase, and what I like is the atmosphere, the incredible mix of people, the bargaining for just some halfpenny, the black hot coffee in the winter afternoon sun...
